"No more Piddles"

Submissive Urination

Hey Shorty,

I get really excited when someone visits my house and I lose control of my bladder, what can I do to stop this embarrassment?
Signed,
Puddles

Dear Puddles,

Yes, this could embarrassing but don’t worry it happens to many of us and you can stop it from happening.  The dog experts call this submissive urination or excitement urination;  I call it I just got excited and leaked on the floor.

This most frequently happens when someone tries to pet us adorable dogs just after arriving.  Sometimes even your loved ones can seem domineering, they are excited to see you too and they want to pet you or grab and squeeze you.  Hopefully your parents are not scolding you for it; this can make you more submissive and make the problem worse.

The best thing to do is to take the excitement out of the greeting.  Always wait five or ten minutes after someone arrives before letting them pet you.  When they do pet you, avoid them if the lean over you instead of crouching down.  Going out for a potty break either just before or right after your guests arrival will also improve the situation.

No worries, if you follow the tips above pretty soon arrivals of visitors won’t be so overwhelming and your piddles will be a thing of the past.
