Squirrel for Thanksgiving |
|
|
Thanksgiving is coming! The holidays are my favorite
time of year; someone is always dropping something tasty on the floor. Last
year on Thanksgiving Day my Pop let my cousin try to use the electric knife
– it was the mother lode for me, turkey everywhere. I even found some that
had launched itself and flew into the living room. Who said turkey can’t
fly? |

One
of my favorite memories of Thanksgiving is a prize I found in the back yard
at my Nana’s house. At the time my Nana and Pop had a fenced in yard and I
was allowed to wonder on my own. Their yard was a treasure trove of
wonderful smells and critters to chase. |

On that Thanksgiving Day, I found a very special prize. I arrived at
the back door with it and my Pop let me in. I strutted past a team of
uncles and male cousins watching football with my prize and proceeded into
the kitchen. |

I then proudly dropped it at Mom’s feet. Mom, Nana and two of my Aunts
leaned over to study my prize, then the screaming began. What is petrified
squirrel anyway? I can’t imagine what all the fuss was about; I
just wanted to contribute to Thanksgiving dinner |
